A place of daily waiting on the Lord and renewal of your spirit
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint
Isaiah 40:30-31
Every one that grew to be a giant of God in this generation and in the past all had one thing in common.
They all sustained their source of strength and accomplishment through consistent fellowship in their Quiet time
They spent long lonely hours, some in days without food just seeking the face of God. This was the secret of giants like Daniel, David, Samuel, Moses, Abraham, even Jesus (God in human form) had this as his habit.
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Mark 1:35
So what then is quiet time?
Quiet time is a time set apart in place of little or no distraction, to commune with God and to allow God commune with you on a daily/regular basis. This is best done early in the morning before your mind breaks into the tumults of the day.
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is
Psalm 63:1
Quiet time must be daily and consistent. Usually, if you don’t set time for something you won’t have time to do it. Jesus set an example in Mark 1:35. Placing this time on your schedule and possibly the same time daily helps you develop this habit and a sense of its importance. This affords you the opportunity to come into God’s presence where God will talk to you and you talk to Him; asking questions, clarifying doubts, and being strengthened.
One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.
Psalm 27:4
The idea is to spend time with God first: in this place, God reveals His plans for your day and also your life. As you study the word and worship, you systematically load your life with power against the storms of life. As you pray and meditate, the Holy Spirit builds you up and heightens your sensitivity to His help in your life.
Materials for your Quiet Time
- A complete Bible (preferably with references)
– Writing materials (notebook and pen)
*Devotional, concordance (Optional)
“…What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches…”
Revelations 1:11
Learn to write down the inspirations you receive from God, His word and in your heart during your quiet time. It serves as a reminder when trials show up. Writing down adds something of strength to your spirit, so as you journal your experiences, trap those divine revelations.
