What Is Destiny?

Destiny Sunday Series #1

Come discover the reason for God's commitment to you to get into conscious partnership with His plans for your life

Destiny is the reason, the purpose for which God saved you. It is what God has appointed you to come to the earth to do and become which you will give an account of to God someday.

As a child of God, the subject of divine destiny is a very sensitive subject because it is what gives meaning and purpose to all of your life’s accomplishments. I am yet to come across a verse in the Scripture where there is just one thing that a person’s destiny is. Rather, divine destiny is a journey that a person is taken on. It is from the word ‘destined that we derive destination.

Destination connotes a journey, and just like in any journey towards a certain place, there are several bus-stops on the road of destiny.

Have you ever boarded a public vehicle? The first question usually asked before boarding is to ensure the bus is headed in the direction that you are going. In that vehicle, there will be several people heading in a similar direction.

As the journey begins, there are times the road bends and the driver takes a turn to be ushered to another junction or stops as some passengers highlight at various stops. So also is life!

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us
Hebrews 12:1

Life as described in this verse of scripture is race. As you go on in life, there would be separations along the way. It could be that you have been moving at the same pace for some time with some group of people and at a certain junction, you may have to go separate paths in order for God to bring you to the road that is uniquely yours. That is why Paul said, “...they that compare themselves with themselves are not wise” (2 Corinthians 10:12).

It becomes very critical for each one to seek the face of God for your own path

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
Psalms 16:11

Whatever you do, make sure you get on the right road. God will do His part and you must do your own part.

At the time that God spoke to Jeremiah in Jeremiah l:5 that “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations,” Jeremiah was doing something else. It is very important that you take time to find out what God’s purpose for your life is and not just to stumble into it.

One of the things that God works in our lives after we are born again is accuracy, and that’s one of the things we learn in church. Our degree of accuracy increases in discipleship. When a man is on the wrong road, ‘Consistency’ is not the message he needs to hear but ‘Change’ and it may require a complete U-turn and going back to the right road.

In order to fulfill destiny, God has set some structures in place and once you align yourself to these structures, you will begin to walk the road of destiny. As we go on in this series, we will be identifying some of these structures.

My prayer for you is that the curtains of eternity will be opened for you to catch a glimpse of God’s plans for your life. Amen!
